Since 2002 I am a Department Scientist at Hewlett-Packard Labs leading a team of researchers applying statistical pattern recognition and probabilistic reasoning to the diagnosis, forecasting, and control of performance problems and faults in complex IT computer systems. I am responsible for technical direction, transfers to HP's business divisions, and growth of the team. In 2004 I received HP Labs' Research Leadership Award for my efforts. Our recent results can be found in SOSP-05, DSN-05, and OSDI-04, and very soon in some of HP's products. A complete list of my publications can be found here. My general research interests are in probabilistic reasoning (algorithms and representation), pattern recognition, statistical induction, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. I was the Program Co-Chair and Conference Chair of the Uncertainty in AI Conference in 2000 and 2001, and the Co-Chair of the ACM Workshop on Self-Managing Systems in 2003. Since 1990 I have been a program committee member of conferences related to my research areas. |
